WHY DOES MY SHOULDER HURT?

There are many different lifestyle factors and conditions which can contribute to shoulder pain. This can include the the type of work that one does, the way they sleep, their typical posture, or if they perform a lot of daily overhead movements.

ANATOMY OF THE SHOULDER JOINT

The shoulder is a ball-and-socket joint and is the most mobile joint within the body, it consists of 3 main bones;

  • Humerus
  • Clavicle (aka collar bone)
  • Scapula (aka shoulder blade)

The humerus fits into the round socket of the scapula (glenoid fossa) and is supported by various muscles and tendons, also known as the rotator cuff muscle group. These muscles function to stabilise the shoulder as well as letting the humerus move in different directions (such as throwing a ball).
