What to expect from your Chiropractor

Every primary healthcare practitioner has different levels of education and experiences when considering the magnitude of conditions that come through the clinic. At Fortitude Chiropractic we believe each patient should receive the same high level of management and treatment regardless of which practitioner you see. We continuously strive to improve ourselves through continuing professional education and mentoring students.

have a seat and take your number #57

At Fortitude Chiropractic you are more than just a number, we have all attended other clinics that make you wait 30 min to see the practitioner, or spend only a couple of minutes with you.

We opened the clinic so we could ‘change the game’, Fortitude Chiropractic is a patient-centred clinic, this means that you are the pilot who controls the flight, our job is to guide you through decreasing pain, increase load capacity through exercises and education.

We accomplish this through longer consultation times, a variety of different techniques such as spinal manipulation, soft tissue therapy, and dry needling and a custom management plan in our purpose built rehab facility.

What to expect during my first visit?

It’s important for you to understand that we know how frustrating it is to be in pain, however, the first appointment is by far the most important, this is where we spend time identify the reason for your discomfort.

As you enter the building we ask that you take a seat and complete the new patient paperwork

Once this is complete one of our experienced Chiropractors will take you through to one of our private consultation rooms

Once here, we will begin your individualised assessment. Our assessment protocol will vary from patient to patient as everyone presents with different issues, however, a general guide will include the following:

1. History Taking

Arguably the most important part of the initial visit, our team will spend time with you trying to identify the underlying cause of your pain. Each practitioner will have a good idea of what’s going on prior to touching you.

2. Physical Examination

Once we have completed our history taking and have a good idea of what’s going on we use the physical examination to confirm our findings.

Some things we will look at will include:

  • Postural examination
  • Active & passive range of motion tests
  • Neurological & Orthopaedic testing
  • Functional testing including squats and lunges
3. Management Plan

“A goal without a plan is just a wish”

All of our Chiropractors have got extensive knowledge in regards to building a purposeful management plan to suit your goals. This means that even if you require a short term plan or a long term plan we are here to help.

4. treatment, advice & education

The first consult is more about identifying the issue rather than helping manage it, as long as the problem is not to complex we will perform some treatment, give some short term pain advice and educate you on how to get the best long term outcome.

What should I expect on subsequent appointments

Once we have been able to identify the issue and we have a goal-oriented management plan in place the follow up appointments are very structured. We begin with a cross examination of how you are feeling since the first appointment. After this we will perform a quick ‘performance assessment‘ to evaluate any objective changes.

Once this is completed we will begin treatment, this will differ from patient to patient but generally will include:

  • Spinal and Extremity Manipulation or Mobilisation
  • Soft Tissue Therapy
  • Musculoskeletal Dry Needling / Western Acupuncture
  • Instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation
  • Rigid and Rocktaping
  • Education
  • Stretches
  • Mobility Work
  • Strength Work
