What are the Most Common Injuries in Soccer?

Soccer is one of the largest participating sports in the world and involves many forms of movement patterns and skills, it’s a multi-faceted sport requiring skills beyond running and kicking a ball at your feet. You must be able to accelerate, decelerate, pivot, turn and cut while controlling a ball at your feet or head, which ultimately requires both technical and physical skills in order to meet its demands.

These demands inevitably lead to a wide range of injuries, most commonly fractures and soft-tissue injuries, particularly in the lower limb.

In 2020-2021, around 1.2 million Australians aged 15 and above engaged in soccer, resulting in 5,100 injury-related hospital admissions, with 4,200 males and 880 females affected. During this timeframe, teens aged 15-19 experienced the most hospitalisations.
