DO CHIROPRACTORS HELP WITH MORE THAN THE SPINE?
Chiropractic care is often associated primarily with spinal treatment, however its scope extends to the entire neuro musculoskeletal system. This includes muscles, joints, nerves, tendons, and ligaments throughout the body. While the spine plays a central role in movement and nervous system function, it is only one component of a highly integrated system.
Conditions that are mechanical in nature such as stiffness, strain, overload, joint irritation, or nerve sensitivity generally fall within a chiropractor’s scope of practice. Assessment focuses on movement quality, load tolerance, and overall function rather than on a single isolated structure. Although spinal dysfunction can influence other regions, peripheral joints such as the shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, and jaw are also commonly evaluated and treated when appropriate.
COMMON COMPLAINTS OTHER THAN THE SPINE
Many patients are surprised at how often areas away from the back and neck are addressed in practice. Shoulder pain is extremely common, particularly rotator cuff irritation or AC joint sprains. Hip tightness, knee pain related to running or gym training, and ankle sprains are also frequent presentations. Elbow pain from gripping and lifting, as well as jaw discomfort and tension related headaches, are regularly managed.
Sports injuries make up a significant portion of these cases, but work related and lifestyle complaints are just as common. Prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks can contribute to shoulder tension, forearm strain, and hip stiffness. When an issue relates to movement, loading, or recovery capacity, it is appropriate to have it assessed.
HOW WE CAN HELP
Here at Fortitude Chiropractic, treatment is tailored to the individual and focused on long term outcomes rather than short term relief. A combination of soft tissue therapy, cupping, dry needling, adjustments, and structured rehabilitation exercises is used to restore movement and reduce pain. Lifestyle and ergonomic advice also forms part of care to minimise ongoing strain and prevent recurrent flare ups.
